Get to know your serger's full potential in this 2-day event. You can either use your own serger (we strongly recommend using a Baby Lock jet-air serger) or you can use one of ours.  We will discuss the best stitches, construction techniques, and machine settings as you create your new favorites garments —the Stockbridge Skirt. and your "Triangulate the Tee" top.

Friday

Get to know your serger’s full potential in this 2-day event. We’ll discuss the best stitches, construction techniques, and machine settings as you create your new favorites—the Stockbridge Skirt and the "Triangulate the Tee" top.

Add one of the most flattering (and easy construction) skirts you’ll ever make to your wardrobe. With the updated Stockbridge Skirt pattern, you’ll see how quickly this versatile skirt can go from cutting table to ready for any event. It’s lovely in soft woven fabrics that drape nicely or knits. And I’ll show you how to get the best proportions for mini, knee-length, mid-calf or floor-length. The pattern has ten sizes to choose from and muslins will be available to determine your perfect fit.

Saturday

Learn serger construction and hem techniques as you create your Triangulate the Tee. You’ll use knit and woven stay tapes to prevent your Tee from stretching out of shape over time. I have a trunk show full of variations in styling and hem options. Muslins in all eight sizes are available to try on to determine your perfect fit. And after you learn my “vanishing binding” technique, you’ll never fear binding a “V” neck again!
  • Your serger (if you want you we will be bringing in Baby Lock's newest serger, the Triumph, for those of you that want to use our serger).
  • Fabric (we will be getting more details on the type and amount as soon as possible)
  • Coordinating thread(s)
  • Patterns (available here in the store, orderable from our website)
  • Basic sewing supplies
We happen to have the pleasure of having a nationally renown sewing educator (Gail Yellen) living in our area (hey, everyone has to live somewhere).

Gail is once again creating a unique workshop just for us.  For those of you that have not had the pleasure of taking a class with Gail here is a bit of information about her.

Gail has been sewing since she was in middle school and what started as a hobby quickly became a passion and a form of creative expression. Experimenting with all types of embellishment techniques on her sewing machine and serger is a favorite pastime. She has been a featured speaker and teacher at American Sewing Guild National Conferences, the Sewing & Stitchery Expo in Puyallup, WA, Original Sewing & Quilt Expos and numerous American Sewing Guild Chapter Events around the country.

Gail is an active member of the American Sewing Guild CT Chapter and was the Manchester Neighborhood Group Leader for 10 years.

Gail Yellen teaches sewing and serger technique classes, garment construction and embellishment workshops. Chock full of valuable ideas and information for garment, quilt and home décor sewers, her classes are geared to all levels of sewing skills. Her “artful patterns with possibilities” have clear, easy-to-follow instructions and feature graceful, flattering lines. Gail particularly loves to teach sewers embellishment techniques that can transform the most basic garments into art-to-wear. An active member of the American Sewing Guild, Gail loves sharing her knowledge with enthusiastic sewers all over the country and would love to teach a workshop at your favorite sewing center/store or for your sewing association.
