This fun and creative “in-the-hoop” project will have little ones quiet and occupied during church or quiet time or whenever you may need a little peace in the house!  This handy mat rolls up and ties for easy storage and also has a zippered pocket inside to store the chalk or chalk markers.  These mats would make terrific Christmas or birthday gifts for the children in your life whether they be relatives or just something for a neighbor’s or friend’s child.  The mat cleans well and can be easily kept in a diaper bag or in the back seat pocket of your car.  There are three sizes available for this pattern on one of my favorite websites, www.embroiderygarden.com.  Just click on that link to order the correct size for your largest hoop.  You can even personalize the mat with the child’s name from the built in fonts inside your embroidery machine!  The mat that I made is the largest one available, for the new 9.5” x 14” hoop.  Its finished measurement is 13.5” x 9” and has about an 8” x 8.5” drawing area!  Really nice!  This will be just a one day class and if you can come with all your pieces cut and ready for two mats, you will easily complete them both.  The cost for this class is $10.  I hope you can join us for this fun and crafty project.

Supplies and Cutting

  • Embroidery file from www.embroiderygarden.com
  • .PDF  of the directions printed out before class please!!
  • Embroidery machine in good working order and the embroidery arm!!
  • Largest hoop or hoop that you are using for this project

**The fabrics used will be referred to as A – J and it is much easier if you mark your pieces as you cut!  The pieces will be used in the order listed.  I only used (1) fabric in each of my samples but you can use (2) fabrics if you wish.  The lining fabric refers to the inside of the pocket**

The amounts of fabric and the sizes needed to be cut will vary according to the size of the embroidery file that you purchased.  All cutting information is listed on the .pdf file that will be included in the download with the embroidery files.  The following information is for the file that I purchased.  Only use these cutting directions if you own the Brother Dream Machine or the Baby Lock Destiny and are using the 9.5” x 14” hoop.
