How many of you embroiderers are familiar with a wonderful embroidery design site called www.moosebstitchin.net??  If you haven’t taken a look at this site, you are missing out!  The entire site is dedicated to “in the hoop” embroidery.  She has many different categories for you to choose from including cases, covers, fall, Christmas and many more.

I found this scrap bag project in the misc. category.  I just sort of stumbled over it while perusing the site!  The scissors holder is in the cases index along with lots of other great items.  You will be able to complete both of the items in one class with no problem.  You will need to purchase the two designs for the class so we have created a link here www.moosebstitchin.net.  Look for the scrap bag in the “misc.” category and the scissors case in the “cases” category.  There are a couple of different scissors cases to choose from but we chose scissors cases 6 to make in class.

The designs are $10 each but you can purchase three designs for $25 which is generally what I do!  Take a moment to browse the site, pick out a third design and save a little money.  Make sure you choose the correct stitch format that your machine reads before purchasing.  If you have a Brother or a Baby Lock embroidery machine, the format is .pes.  Since this is just a one day class the cost is $10.  This is such a fun and easy project and we hope you can join us!!

Cutting Instructions:

*Use regular quilting weight cotton for this project due to the thickness of the layers.  You will also need a medium tear-away stabilizer for both of these projects*

Scrap Bag:

(1) 13” x 24” piece of fabric for the BACK of bag

(1) 13” x 12” piece of fabric for the FRONT of bag

(1) 9” x 12” piece of heavy cutaway for inside of BACK of bag (I used the Floriani Medium Cutaway Fusible and it was perfect)

(1) 6” x 13” piece of heavy cutaway for inside of FRONT of bag (I used the Floriani Medium Cutaway Fusible and it was perfect)

Scissors Case:

*Hint: cut two 6” width of fabric strips and that way all pieces can be cut from these*

(1) 6” x 11” piece of fabric for the BACK outside piece

(1) 6” x 11” piece of fabric for the LINING

(1) 6” x 8” piece of fabric for the inside FLAP.  This should be folded right sides out and pressed to form a 6” x 4” piece

(1) 6” x  14” piece of fabric for the BOTTOM FRONT.  This should be folded right sides out and pressed to form a 6” x 7” piece.

(1) 6” x 11” piece of batting for BACK padding

(1) 6” x 7” piece of batting for BOTTOM FRONT padding

(1) 5” x 6” piece of fabric for applique (optional)

(1) 2” piece of ¾” wide Velcro (not sticky back)

Fabric preparation: (for scrap bag only)

Take your time with this step, accuracy is important!

Using the 13” x 24” BACK piece, fold the two long edges under 2” wrong sides together, then fold in half so you end up with a 9” x 12” piece with 3 folded edges and 1 raw edge.  Press all the folds well.  After pressing, open back up and insert the 9” x 12" piece of cutaway inside, fusible side down, so that it is within the folds on one end.  Spray the top of the piece of cutaway with some adhesive to totally seal the fabric down.  Check to make sure that your folded piece is 9” x 12”.

Take the 13” x 12” FRONT piece and fold it in half, wrong sides together, to make a 13” x 6” piece.  Press.  Open back up and center the 6” x 13” piece of cutaway on one half, fusible side down.  Now spray the other side of the cutaway and re-fold the fabric.

*There is a .pdf instruction page that always accompanies the design download.  Please print these out and bring them with you to class. The scissors case design also has a separate picture instruction page with it so please print that out as well!*
