This asymmetrical cardigan, with a ruched back neckline, has flattering lines intended to make a woman with real curves look slim and stylish – whether you wear it dressy or toss it on over jeans. For winter wear, make it from a cozy sweater or double knit. For summer, chose a lightweight drapey rayon or slinky knit. Pair it with Pamela’s Perfect Tank Top (an upcoming class as well) or the sleeveless top from her Versatile Twin Set!

Pamela’s Patterns are designed with the most common fit alterations built right in – high round back, forward shoulder, full hip and tummy and a separate pattern for a full bustline. The patterns even give you an “essence of waist”! The cardigan is quick and easy to make and the pattern includes many sewing/fitting tips.

This class will be run over two days, (2 1/2) hours each day or a full day class (5) hours. You can choose whichever one works for you! If you have some sewing skills and you choose to cut out the pattern pieces at home, you may not need the whole day or the entire second (of the two day) class to complete the cardigan. I am wearing my Cool Cardigan as I write this and boy is it a comfy and nice fitting garment. I already have the fabric for the next one that I am making! Hope you can join me for this terrific class!

Materials:

Cool Cardigans – Draped Front Pattern (available at Schiller’s)
Good quality knit fabric including sweater knits, cotton, polyester, rayon, lycra/spandex, or stretch velvets. Use fabrics with a good “drape”. Nancy’s Notions has a nice selection of cotton/poly knits in several colors and JoAnn’s also has some good knits. ALWAYS PREWASH AND DRY YOUR FABRIC BEFORE CUTTING OUT THE PATTERN PIECES!!
60” Wide Fabric is Required – purchase an extra ½ yard for narrower widths. (XS – 2 yards) to (XL – 2 ¼ yards)
Sewing machine in good working order (a serger is optional but a wonderful companion).
Thread (preferably polyester) and enough (3) spools if you are doing some of your construction on a serger.
Size 75/11 stretch sewing machine needle(s)
Small piece of Fantastic Elastic (available at Schiller’s) or an 8 inch piece of 3/8” wide elastic.
1” wide Double Sided Fusible Stay Tape (available at Schiller’s)
Scissors, pins, marking pen, ¼” sewing machine foot, basic sewing supplies

Prep:

Once pick up your pattern, choose your correct size paper pattern and cut it out (or trace with pattern tracing paper if you want to keep the pattern intact). If you are comfortable with laying out your fabric and cutting the fabric, do so prior to class. You will most likely have infinitely more room at home in your sewing room or on your kitchen table than we have here in the classroom! If you are not comfortable with cutting your fabric, by all means, wait and I will assist you! The nice thing about this pattern is that there are only three pattern pieces for the cardigan. A front, back and sleeve, super easy!
