Making stockings is one of most enjoyable things to do for the holiday season. Using some of the beautiful Christmas fabrics that we have purchased over the year to create gorgeous patchwork, appliqued, embroidered or embellished stockings for our friends, family or even our pets is a great joy!
These two stockings were made entirely on sergers. That’s right! Dust off those sergers again for a really fun class! The first one is embellished with the flatlock stitch on a 2-3-4 thread serger using a beautiful metallic silver thread in the upper looper. The second one has rows of chain stitches using red metallic thread, silver metallic thread and some white pearl crown rayon. For this stocking I used a serger with the cover/chain capability. Both of the stockings are beautiful on their own so whatever capability your serger has, one of these stockings is in your future! The finished size of these stockings is approximately 14” long and 5 ½” wide at the top.
If you have purchased the book “Ready, Set, Serge” for other serger project classes we have had, this project is in that book. I made the pattern for the stocking portion a bit larger than they suggest because I thought a bigger size is better and working with larger pieces of fabric is a little easier! I would suggest purchasing this book if you are at all interested in making some more quick and easy serger items. It is a terrific project book for sergers with lots of ideas for gifts and such. The cost is $22.99 and we will have some copies here at the store for sale.
Even if you have not yet taken the leep towards purchasing a serger, we could provide you with one if you wish to participate in our class. This is a one day class so the cost will be $10. I hope to see many of you in class!
