As if looking through a kaleidoscope, this beautiful Dresden Plate design offers an infinite array of pattern variations complete with straight, pointed, curved and decorative edges for unique looks.  Plus, easy-to-piece layered wedges and insertion wedges take Dresden Plate designs to the third-dimension.  The possibilities are endless!!  I chose some summer patriotic fabrics for this project because I’m feeling the warm weather coming on! The ruler and project book come together as a pack and we will have it here at the store for sale at about $18.  The design we will be making is one of MANY in the project book, AND the ruler allows you to create 19 sizes of Dresden Plate wedges!  Also, feel free to change up the fabrics to whatever suits your color palette.  This is a very easy project and makes a quick gift for a friend or family member especially if you know their favorite color schemes.  We can complete this project in one day so the cost will be just $10.  Get ready for summer and join me for a wonderful and creative class!  Hope to see you all soon!!

Materials and Preparation

*Please use good quality quilting cottons*

Materials:

  • ¼ yard of (5) Different coordinating fabrics (not fat quarters)
  • Dresden Ruler and Project book: available at Schiller’s
  • Lightweight fusible interfacing or stabilizer: I used no-show mesh fusible embroidery stabilizer or use a fusible tricot style interfacing
  • Thread to match your fabrics
  • Rotary cutter and mat: much easier if you have a small one of your own to use
  • Decorative blade for your rotary cutter if you wish: such as the wave style blade
  • Mini iron if you desire (nice to have)
  • ¼” sewing machine foot if desired
  • Sewing machine in good working order
  • Basic sewing supplies

Preparation:

  • Spray your 5 quarter yard fabric cuts with some light spray starch and press dry.  This will make the wedges easier to cut.
