Have any of you heard of the Double Diamond Ruler’s?  These are rulers that are positioned on your fabric in such a way that a section of material is cut to produce a really neat set of diamonds when flipped over.  I had a terrific time making this project and utilizing the rulers.  My fabrics made the project fun as well! The topper has all simple sewing with basically rectangles and strips to sew.  Your fabric color themes can vary from earth tones to pastels or even holiday colors.  What a nice gift for a friend or family member!  Anyone can make this neat project whether you are new to sewing or you are a seasoned sewer.  The Double Diamond Ruler Set will be available here at Schiller’s for $19.95.   We will need two days to complete the project so the charge for the class is $20.  I hope you will give this class a try and join us for some sewing fun at Schiller’s!

Materials:

  •   Double Diamond Ruler Set
  •   Fusible Web – I like to use Lite Steam a Seam II
  •   Fabric Glue Stick
  •   Fabric A – (black and gray floral on my sample) – 1/3 yard
  •   Fabric B – (green on my sample) – ¼ yard
  •   Fabric C – (burgundy on my sample) – ¼ yard
  •   Fabric D and Binding - (black on my sample) – 1 yard
  •   Fabric E - (light gray on my sample) – 2/3 yard
  •   Backing – 3/4/yard
  •   Batting – 30” square
  •   Sewing machine in good working order
  •   New size 80/12 Universal sewing machine needle
  •   Threads to match your fabric
  •   Basic sewing notions

Prep:

  •   Fabric A cut: (4) 5” x 10 1/2” rectangles, (1) 8 ½” square, (1) 2 1/2” square
  •   Fabric B cut: (2) 1 ½” x WOF strips, (2) 2 ½” squares
  •   Fabric C cut: (4) 5” x 10 ½” rectangles, (4) 1 ½” x 7” strips,  (4) 1 ½” x 9” strips
  •   Fabric D cut:  (1) 1 ½” x WOF strip
  •   Fabric E cut:  (4) 5” x 10 ½” rectangles, (2) 1 ½” WOF strips, (2) 3” squares, (3) 2 ½” WOF strips for binding
  •   Fusible Web cut: (4) 4 ½” x 10” rectangles
