Anita Goodesign Quilting Essentials

Want it? Have it? Don’t know how it works?

Anita Goodesign Quilting Essentials is one of their Premium Edition design packs.  If you have an embroidery machine and are interested in quilting as well, this is one of the most fun and interesting techniques you will ever try!  The whole concept behind this design pack is to create your entire quilt top in the embroidery hoop.  The blocks, cornerstones, sashing and borders are all available in several different sizes.  You cut your material to the size requested, add an additional embroidery design to the block if you wish, and then just watch the machine stitch...and the sashing is stitched to the block while it’s in the hoop as well!  Also included are many beautiful pieced borders, mitered corners, folded fabric borders, crazy quilt blocks and borders, stippling patterns with animals, bonus built in embroidery designs, full sized templates and more!  Over the past few years, quilting and embroidery have become “joined at the hip” in a certain sense and embroidery design manufacturers like Anita Goodesign have assisted today’s quilter/embroiderer by creating some of the most delightful software on the market.

Quilting Essentials may have been one of the design packs that you selected during our Anita Goodesign event last fall and you haven’t even opened it up to figure it out!  Or, this design pack is one of the ones that you have looked at during one of our workshops but hadn’t taken the plunge.  Believe me you will not be disappointed with your purchase!  If you like the look of stippling in your blocks, but are wary of trying the technique on your own, there are many, many choices of background stippling designs that are embroidered completely by the machine.

During this technique class, we will construct a four block quilt including borders and mitered corners.  This will be a two day session so the cost will be $20.  The class is open to all embroiderer’s, even if you don’t have the program yet!  We will be providing the designs for you to complete this project and get a little taste of what this wonderful program can do. We hope you will be as impressed as we are.  The retail price for this Premium Edition design package is $179.00, but during this class, we will be offering it for $134.25!  That’s 25% off, saving you over $44.00!  Such a deal!  Please plan on bringing your embroidery machine, cord, hoop etc.  We hope you will join us for this fun and exciting way to make a “quilt-in-the-hoop”!

Supplies:

  • Embroidery machine in good working order, along with the power cord and the embroidery arm
  • An 8” x 8” embroidery hoop if you have one, otherwise bring your largest hoop
  • New embroidery needle in your machine
  • Bobbin wound with bobbin thread or a pre-wound bobbin with the adapter included
  • Thread to match your fabrics, (I used all embroidery threads)
  • Scissors, spray adhesive or painters tape,
  • Other embroidery designs to merge into your blocks, rotary cutter, mat, ruler, etc.

Stabilizer:

  •   No Show Mesh (non-fusible).  Enough for 8 different hoopings, (4 blocks and 4 border pieces)

Batting:

  •   Low loft cotton or cotton/polyester.  Six pieces approximately 9” square and two pieces approximately 6” x 12”

Fabrics:

  • I had a pack of fat quarters that worked very nicely for this project. There are a total of six different fabrics plus the backing piece (I just used white muslin for the back)
  • The entire sample quilt is only 20” square, so you don’t need a lot of any of the fabrics to complete this project.  Great way to use up some the smaller pieces in your stash!
  • The blocks are 7 ½” square including the sashing.  The borders are 3 ¾” wide.
  • I was even able to use one of the fat quarters for the binding
  •  The largest piece of fabric needed will be for the backing
