We thought it was about time for another “in-the-hoop” embroidery project so here it is!  This great set of zippered cases is just right for you or that special person on your holiday gift list.  If you recently purchased an embroidery machine and haven’t tried making in-the-hoop projects on your own, this is a class for you!  Or, if you already know how much fun they are to make, please join us as well!  You are going to love stitching up these fun and trendy bags.  Three versatile sizes and lots of options give you endless ways to use these Boutique Zipper Cases.  The small case makes an adorable coin wallet, keychain case or credit card holder.  The medium size makes a nifty bag to store your make-up, phone cords and more.  The large size is great for packing toiletries for a trip or sewing supplies for a class.  You can also use it to make a fabulous Fanny Pack!  The ribbon accent and monogram on these bags make them a cut above the rest!  All you need is a 5”x7” hoop or larger for your embroidery machine for this project.  The set of three designs can be purchased from Pickle Pie Designs for $18.99 and here is the link to go to their site.  This will be a one day class so there is no charge!  Come down to Schiller’s and have some embroidery fun!!

See you soon!

Materials and Cutting

Materials :

  •   (3) polyester zippers (non-metal) size 7”, 9” and 12”
  •   1 ½ yards of fabric for all three cases
  •   1 yard of batting (low loft)
  •   30” of 7/8” wide grosgrain ribbon
  •   (3) 3”x3” pieces of coordinating or contrasting fabric (for center)
  •   Embroidery machine in good working order
  •   Medium weight tear-away stabilizer
  •   Hoops needed for project
  •   Thread to match fabric
  •   Pre-wound bobbin
  •   Size 90/14 embroidery needle
  •   Painters tape
  •   Basic embroidery supplies

For Cutting :

In your download with the designs, you also have a .pdf document with the instructions for cutting the fabric and the batting for each size bag.  Please cut all of these pieces out prior to coming to class.  I added an additional lining to all of my cases so as not to see the back of the front piece with the stabilizer on it.  With the decorative stipple stitch, it is impossible to remove all the stabilizer and I don’t like to see that on the inside!!  So, I have added two extra pieces of fabric for you to cut for each bag.  These pieces will be inserted into the stitching process to create a beautiful clean finish on the inside of your cases.  Don’t worry, I have added the additional fabric needed for this lining in the yardage requirements above, or you can always use a different, coordinating fabric.  There are also “extra options” included in the instructions for adding a back pocket, a wristlet strap, adding a quilted back to any case and also for creating a Fanny Pack out of the large case.  If any of these options appeal to you, just bring in the pieces required and we will make it happen for you!

Extra Fabric to Cut for Clean-Finish Lining :

Small case – (1) 5”x7” piece and (1) 3”x7” piece

Medium case – (1) 5 ½”x9” piece and (1) 3”x9” piece

Large case – (1) 7”x12” piece and (1) 4”x12” piece
