Miranda is the perfect girl to tag along for your day on the go.  This moderately sized, yet roomy tote doubles as your personal assistant - offering lots of pockets to keep things organized.  Among all the bags that I have made over the years, the Miranda Bag quickly became my favorite.  Because of the pocket arrangement, all of your items are neatly placed and ready when you need them.  Nothing gets lost!  The solid bottom is nice too, there are no creases and crevices where items can disappear.  There is hidden Velcro under a pretty tab closure on the top of the bag, or you can use a decorative metal clasp like I did.   You can also add a magnetic snap on the top of your bag for extra security but that is entirely optional.  If you wish, you could also add some metal feet to the bottom of the bag, a nice touch!  The Miranda Bag has 10 inside pockets and you can choose from fabric handles (short or long) or fashion handles available in many different styles.  The bag also comes in a smaller version called “Mini Miranda”.  We will have both of the patterns here at Schiller's for purchase.  Cost is about $9.00.  Please join us for some sewing fun!

Materials:

This project is designed to be made using 100% cotton quilting weight fabric.  These measurements are for the original size Miranda Bag that is approx. 12” X 10” X 6”.

Fabrics:  1/3 yard - Cover (main part of bag)

2/3 yard - Cover (bottom of bag)

1/2  yard - Lining (see note below)

2/3 yard - Pockets, sleeve for bag bottom support

Note:  The lining fabric creates a faux binding at the top of the bag.  Choose a lining fabric that will look good with the other two cover fabrics.

Batting:   3/4  yard approx. 45” wide low loft batting

Fusible Interfacing:  1 yard medium to heavy weight, approx. 45” wide.  Or 2 1/4  yards if 22” wide. I used Pellon Shirt Tailor for my bag because I already had some, they suggested using Pellon Décor Bond, this is a little bit more stiff.

Velcro:  Two inches of sew in Velcro.

Optional:  “U” shaped fashion handles can be substituted for fabric handles.  Also, a magnetic snap can be purchased if you wish, and/or metal feet.

You will also need:

  •     A rotary cutter, ruler and mat
